Meet Our Team

John James

Director

John is Director and Founder of Southwest Training Solutions. He set up the business in 2006 and has a staggering 34+ years experience of working and teaching in the Adult Health and Social Care sector.

John has worked in several roles from volunteer to management and is now responsible for the accounting side of the business. John specialises in Safe Handling of People but also has a passion for teaching First Aid and Health & Safety related topics. When John isn’t teaching or managing the business, he likes going to the gym and enjoys board games.

Amanda Briggs

Director

Amanda joined Southwest Training Solutions as a Director in 2019, she became a qualified instructor in 2003 and worked in domiciliary care and as a freelance instructor before joining our team, where she now, brilliantly, manages the marketing function for the business as well as tutoring where she specialises in First Aid and Safeguarding.

Before moving into the training sector, Amanda served in the Royal Navy as a Medical Assistant for 13 years. In her spare time Amanda enjoys going to the theatre and spending time with her 2 children.

Steph Randall

Office Manager

Steph is our amazing Office Manager, handling phone and email queries, booking training courses and sending out certificates to name just a few of her responsibilities.

Steph joined Southwest Training Solutions in 2019 with her wealth of knowledge of over 20 years in administration in the Charity and Education sectors.

Steph has visited 5 continents, can recall random facts and song lyrics and has 2 beautiful children.

Daryl Knight

Specialist Trainer in Emergency & Deteriorating Patient Care

Daryl is a highly experienced specialist trainer delivering courses focused on the management of deteriorating patients. With a strong background in emergency care, he brings real-world clinical insight, practical expertise, and calm leadership to every session he teaches.

Daryl delivers a wide range of accredited and specialist courses, including Basic Life Support (BLS)Immediate Life Support (ILS)FREC (First Response Emergency Care), and comprehensive First Aid training. His teaching style combines evidence-based practice with hands-on, scenario-led learning to ensure delegates leave confident, competent, and ready to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.

With extensive frontline experience in emergency settings, Daryl understands the importance of early recognition, rapid assessment, and decisive intervention when managing deteriorating patients. He is passionate about empowering healthcare professionals and first responders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to deliver safe, effective care when it matters most.

Daryl is committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical training and continuously updates his practice in line with current guidelines and best practice.
